Ah Autumn, my absolute hands-down, gold-leafed favourite time of the year. I’m an October baby (as is Alex, go Libras!) so I’m not sure if it’s something to do with birthday excitement from when I was small, or just the changing of the seasons where everything gets very golden and beautiful that gets me all enthusiastic about Autumn – but I love it around this time of year.
The September issue is always the highlight of any editorial calendar, it’s pretty much the Christmas of the fashion world and a legit excuse to go stock up on chunky knits and all the new autumnal loveliness that lands in stores over the next few weeks. When it comes to wardrobe updates, there are a few key trends which have been a running theme at AW press days….
This has to have been the theme of the year, having virtually taken over stores in recent months. Jeans are higher waisted, heels chunky, tops cropped, shift dresses layered over neat tee’s and by way of accessories we’re talking backpacks and chokers galore. This is something set to continue into autumn winter, with lots of sparkly simple shifts layered beneath faux furs on display at press previews (all those Friends re-runs are looking ridiculously stylish all of a sudden).

White 2-in-1 Cami, €25.00, River Island
Sequin Shift Dress, €39.95, Zara
Leather & Shine choker, €15.95, Zara
My favourite trend hands down. I love the understated model-off-duty vibe of this sports-luxe trend; Gigi Hadid & Kendall Jenner have this one sewn up. Satin bombers, baseball caps and even silky jogger-bottoms are working their way into the high-street in a big way this autumn.

Chevron Print Body Suit, €22.99, River Island
Luxe Joggers, €55.00, Tommy Hilfiger for Topshop
Stan Smith Gold Leaf Runners, €125.00, Adidas
Spotted as a running theme on runways from Prada to Moschino, leopard is coming back in a big way. Love it or loathe it, the like of Primark, River Island and the rest have some form of leopard print on offer this autumn. This is the type of trend piece that I always think is best not to invest in, it’s fun for a season but come Springtime you’re pretty much guaranteed to be done with it. It’s also a great accent print for accessories without having to fully commit.
