Flowers are one of our favourite things and whatever the occasion they’re always a great gift. Unfortunately, they can also work out to be very expensive. As Mothers Day is approaching bouquet prices are rising and you are looking at about €40 – €50 even for sad looking supermarket blooms. If you also have an in-law you are buying for the expense can be quite terrifying.
So in true Pink Elephant Blog fashion we are showing you how to do fabulous blooms on a budget! Once again we’ve partnered up with our favourite stylist Jette Virdi to show you that creating your own beautiful bouquets is easy and your Mum will love the thought and effort you put in!
The most important thing to know is where to shop. Rather than going to a florist or supermarket go to a flower market or wholesaler. Our favourite spot in Dublin is Joseph Duffy & Sons in the Victorian flower and fruit market in Mary’s Lane, Smithfield. For our arrangements we bought 3 bunches of blooms: pink ranunculus (the main flowers), white wax flower (filler) and ruscus (foliage) which altogether came to €20 and makes 3 medium sized bunches.
All you will need for the project are your flowers of choice, some twine or gold wire (which is what we used) & a good scissors. There are no rules here, just have fun but if you’re unsure here’s our Pinterest board full of great inspiration.
Creative: ranunculus + wax flowers + ruscus
This is a slightly fuller, more boho version of the first bouquet. We used wax flower to make the whole thing more voluptuous and the effect is really beautiful.
Which bouquet is your favourite? We can’t decide….
